Being reported that Valpo may in fact be moving to the MVC to replace Wichita State, which left earlier this spring for the American.
If that happened, it would drop the Horizon to nine members. Would make me think it very possible that they look to raid a conference like the Summit yet again (maybe one of the Indiana schools or Western Illinois?). Also would take away the school who has been the dominant success story in the Horizon. They’ve won the regular season title in that league 5 of the last 6 years. They had moved from the Summit only in 2007, so it’s sort of a Butler-West or Butler-Lite path they’ve taken.
That would open the door for a program like Oakland to perhaps make more regular NCAA appearances, though there are lots of quality programs in that league even wtihout Valpo. IMO, it’s been the second best Upper Midwest league for awhile now, better than the MAC.
