Fallout from the various scandals that athletic department has had over the past few months, most significantly in football.

The reason I post it here is this…makes me wonder about the security for John Groce. He’s entering year 4 and he’s thus far got only 1 NCAA Tournament to show for it (and let’s be honest, that was with Bruce Weber’s players leading the way). Anytime the guy that hired you is gone, there’s some concern or at least there should be. When you haven’t been winning the way people expect you to, it should be REALLY concerning.

I think there is a disconnect with some Illini fans as to what level their program should be. Yet, at the same time, I don’t think there’s much denying that the right coach should be able to at least produce a consistent Tournament team down there…you can get some Chicagoland players and downstate Illinois typically produces enough talent to supplement the roster. Add in an ability to compete in other Big Ten states like Indiana and Ohio for players and being a consistent Tourney team is a reasonable standard. If Groce were to miss for the 3rd year in a row, can he withstand that with a new AD on board at some point? BIG, big year for his program coming up.
